Who are the students with specific needs?

According to the decree (article 1), students who can benefit from specific support within their institution are: students “with a proven disability, a specific learning disorder, or a debilitating illness that may constitute an obstacle in their academic life” students “with a decision for intervention from a public body responsible for the integration of people with disabilities” Procedure to obtain recognition of the status of student with specific needs & the establishment of reasonable accommodations Any student with one or more specific needs can request reasonable accommodations so that their situation does not hinder their success. Any student with a disability, whether physical or sensory, as well as any student presenting cognitive disorders (learning), or suffering from serious illnesses.

Orphaned or others can submit a request using the following procedure (even for students who have already submitted a request in a previous year): 1) Log in to MY: https://my.heaj.be Once you are regularly registered at HEAJ 2) Submit a request through the MY portal To submit your request, follow this path: https://my.heaj.be/ash The form You must answer each field in detail and proceed to the next step. The ‘save’ button allows you to save the part(s) you have already written and return to them later if needed. The documents You must complete your detailed medical file with a specialist doctor. Your file will not be processed until the documents have been uploaded by you. The validation You will find a summary of your request there. You will validate the various conditions necessary for the processing of your file. 3) Appointment Planning You will be contacted by Mrs. Dewez to plan an appointment aimed at identifying the accommodations you may need. 4) Submission of the file to the commission The file will be submitted for approval to the commission (recognition of your status as a student with specific needs and validation of reasonable accommodations). Depending on the decision made, you will be informed of the actions to take. It is always possible to meet with the Inclusive Service by making an appointment via ens.inclusif@heaj.be.
