For students with special needs
Any student who has special needs due to a disease, a disability or a special learning disability can ask for adjustments and special support.
We pay close attention to all the students with special needs, as stated in the Inclusive Higher Education decree which was passed by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation Parliament in January 2014.
Who are the students with special needs?
According to the decree (article 1), the students which are entitled to a special support in their school are:
- The students “who present a recognized deficiency, a special learning disability or a debilitating disease that can represent an obstacle in their academic life”,
- The students “which have a decision of intervention from a public institution in charge of integrating people with disabilities”.
How can you benefit from a customized support?
To be recognized as a special need student, you must submit a request by contacting Mrs. Marie-Jeanne Petiniot (marie-jeanne.petiniot@heaj.be)
For further information, don’t hesitate to check the ESI section of the Pôle académique of Namur on www.poledenamur.be/activites/specifique.
Testimony
“Thanks to the adjustments, I understand better the questions and I don’t answer “off tracks” anymore. I have been able to see improvement in my results. The assisting student helped me to have my courses in order which facilitated the study during the reading period. Language teachers checked the spelling of my vocabulary lists which allowed me to study without spelling mistakes”.
